A Path to Peace: Renew Your Spirit
The Apostle Paul prayed that we “…may be strengthened in your inner being with power through the Spirit… as you are rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:16-17). The spirit with us connects with the Spirit of God to produce the fruits of joy, love, peace, and generosity. We tend to our “inner spirit” by cultivating those fruits in our lives. There is also a spirit that connects us with one another. Think about being in-spired (in-spirited). Someone else’s spirit connects with our spirit and both are enlarged. We call that the” connective spirit.”
Inner Spirit: The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5: 22-23).
We tend the inner spirit when we intentionally long for the fruits of God’s spirit to be born in us. And then we act. If we want to become a generous person, we practice giving and generosity. If we want to become more loving, we love. If we want to become more grateful, we practice gratitude. Connective Spirit: Love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27).
As followers of Jesus, our Path to Peace necessarily leads us beyond ourselves to engage the world around us. We connect with one another in service, through compassion, and by becoming advocates for justice. In other worlds, we work alongside Jesus to bring God’s vision of the kingdom to our homes, our community, our world.
